Furniture Delivery: What to Expect | Select Living

Delivery team carrying a wrapped sofa through the front door of a home

The short answer

Every order ships free across the contiguous 48 states with threshold delivery — your furniture arrives at your front door or garage. Need it carried inside? Room-of-choice and white-glove upgrades are available (white-glove is free on select products — the product page says exactly which). Estimated delivery is 2–3 weeks. Before delivery day, measure your doorways, clear a path, and know which service level your order includes.

Shop all furniture

The three delivery levels, plainly explained

Threshold delivery (included free on every order). The delivery team brings your furniture to your front door, garage, or building entrance — the "threshold" of your home. From there, it's yours to move inside and set up. This is the standard for online furniture everywhere, and it's free with every Select Living order in the contiguous 48 states. It does not include unpacking, room-of-choice placement, or assembly.

Threshold works great when: the piece is manageable (an accent chair, a coffee table, a rug), you have a second pair of hands, or you're comfortable with light assembly. Most of our smaller pieces are genuinely easy — a table lamp or an ottoman is a one-person job.

Room-of-choice delivery (available upgrade). The team carries your furniture inside to the room you choose — no curbside struggle, no hauling a sectional piece down the hallway yourself. If your product doesn't include white-glove free, a room-of-choice upgrade may be available for an additional fee. Email orders@selectlivingfurniture.com before you place your order for a quote.

White-glove delivery (free on select products). Where the product page says so, white-glove is included at no charge: the team carries the furniture into your room of choice, sets it up, and hauls the packaging away. For a sectional, a bedroom set, or a dining table with six chairs, this is the difference between a project and a pleasant afternoon. Upgrades to white-glove may also be available on other products for an additional fee — same deal, email us before ordering for a quote.

Check the product page before you order — it states exactly which delivery level that product includes. Don't assume; verify.

Timing: when will it arrive?

Estimated delivery is 2–3 weeks from order. That's the honest window for furniture that ships from a warehouse and travels by freight.

A few things that affect timing:

  • Freight routing. Large furniture doesn't ship like a parcel — it moves on freight trucks with scheduled routes. That's why the window is measured in weeks, not days.
  • Your place in the route. Trucks run scheduled delivery routes, so your location in the route affects the day, not whether it arrives.
  • Gated communities and high-rises. If your community needs gate codes or your building needs elevator reservations, have that information ready when the delivery team contacts you. It prevents the most common delivery-day delay.

You'll be contacted to schedule the delivery window. Be reachable — a missed scheduling call is the #1 avoidable delay.

Prepping your home (the 20-minute checklist)

Do this the day before delivery:

  1. Measure every doorway, hallway, and stairwell turn on the delivery path. Compare against the product's dimensions tab. The piece that doesn't fit through the door is a return nobody wants.
  2. Clear the path. Move small furniture, rugs that slide, toys, and pet gates out of the delivery route — from the front door to the final room.
  3. Clear the destination. The old piece should be moved or disassembled before the new one arrives, especially with white-glove (the team sets up the new piece; they're not a moving company for the old one).
  4. Protect floors if it matters to you. Lay down a moving blanket or old sheet on hardwood along the path. Threshold delivery means you're moving it yourself — plan accordingly.
  5. Secure pets. Delivery teams open doors wide and make multiple trips. Put dogs in a back room before the truck arrives.
  6. Have your phone on you. The driver may call with a narrower arrival window or gate questions.

Apartment, townhome, and high-rise notes

Apartments, townhomes, and high-rises add two wrinkles: stairs and parking.

  • Stairs: If there's no elevator, know the stairwell width and the tightest turn. Modular sectionals — pieces that arrive separately and connect in your room, like the Emilia or Rally-Up — are dramatically easier to get upstairs than one-piece sectionals.
  • Parking: Freight trucks need space. If your complex has tight parking or assigned spots only, warn the delivery team when they call to schedule. A truck that can't park near your building becomes a long carry or a reschedule.
  • Elevators: Reserve the freight elevator if your building has one, and confirm the elevator's interior dimensions against the furniture's.

What delivery day actually looks like

Threshold: The truck arrives, the team unloads your furniture at the door or garage, and you're on your own from there. Inspect the boxes before they leave — note any visible damage on the delivery receipt. Open and inspect the furniture itself within a day or two; if anything's wrong, report it within 24 hours (see below).

Room-of-choice: The team carries the pieces inside to the room you choose and leaves them there. You handle unpacking and assembly from that point.

White-glove: The team carries pieces to your room of choice, assembles and positions them, and removes all packaging. Walk the room with them before they leave — check every piece, test every recliner and drawer, and confirm you're happy. It's much easier to resolve an issue while the team is standing there.

If something arrives damaged

It happens — freight is rough on furniture. Here's the playbook:

  1. Note visible box damage on the delivery receipt before the driver leaves. "Box crushed on corner" takes ten seconds and protects you completely.
  2. Photograph everything — the box, the damage, the piece, the product label or SKU. Timestamped photos resolve disputes fast.
  3. Report it within 24 hours. Email orders@selectlivingfurniture.com with clear photos of the damage, the product label/SKU, and the packaging. You can also call or text (832) 623-4833 or (281) 299-9248. If damage isn't reported within 24 hours or noted at delivery, the order is considered delivered in good condition — so don't let boxes sit for two weeks.

This is also why the pre-delivery inspection matters more than the return policy: a documented damage claim at delivery is straightforward, while a return for "changed my mind" carries the 20% restocking fee (capped at $500, and you cover return freight).

Moving threshold deliveries yourself (safely)

If your order is threshold delivery, you're the moving crew for the last 30 feet. A few rules:

  • Never drag. Lift, or use furniture sliders on hard floors. Dragging tears both the furniture and the floor.
  • Two people for anything over 50 pounds. Sectional pieces, dressers, and dining tables are two-person minimum.
  • Remove doors from hinges if a piece is within an inch of fitting — a door is 1.5 inches of free clearance.
  • Assemble in the room, not in the garage. Carry pieces in, build where it lives. Most of our furniture is designed for exactly this.

The cost question

Shipping is free across the contiguous 48 states — every product, every order. There's no minimum and no zone surcharge. White-glove, where the product page includes it, is also free. Want room-of-choice or white-glove on a product that doesn't include it? Upgrades may be available for an additional fee — email orders@selectlivingfurniture.com before you order for a quote. Financing the purchase doesn't change delivery: Synchrony and Affirm are available at checkout either way.

Frequently asked questions

Is furniture delivery really free? Yes — free shipping across the contiguous 48 states on every order, with threshold delivery included. Select products include free white-glove in-home delivery where the product page says so.

How long does delivery take? Estimated delivery is 2–3 weeks from order. You'll be contacted to schedule the delivery window.

What's the difference between threshold, room-of-choice, and white-glove delivery? Threshold brings furniture to your front door or garage; you move it inside and set it up. Room-of-choice carries it inside to the room you choose. White-glove (free on select products) carries it to your room of choice, sets it up, and removes the packaging. Room-of-choice and white-glove upgrades may be available on other products for an additional fee — email us before ordering for a quote.

Do I need to be home for delivery? Yes — someone needs to receive the furniture, and for white-glove, direct the team to the right room. Make sure your phone is on for scheduling calls.

What if my furniture doesn't fit through the door? Measure before you order — every product page has a dimensions tab. If a piece can't get in, that's a return (14 days, 20% restocking fee capped at $500, customer pays return freight). Modular sectionals that arrive as separate pieces avoid this problem almost entirely.

Do you deliver to apartments and high-rises? Yes, anywhere in the contiguous 48 states. For apartments and high-rises, have gate codes, elevator reservations, and stairwell measurements ready when the delivery team calls.
